  • Shelby Yates
  • Junior
  • Leisure, Youth, & Human Services Major with an emphasis in Nonprofit Management
  • Family Services Minor
  • Shelby has wanted to work in the nonprofit sector for as long as she can remember. When she found out that UNI had a credential program for nonprofits she claims it was “simply a no-brainer”
  • She currently volunteers at Prairie Lakes Church, the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Ridgeway Place, and the Boys and Girls Club
  • In the future, Shelby wishes to be working in the nonprofit sector, specifically in social services. She doesn’t have any particular organization in mind, as long as she has the ability to help those in need to realize their potential, come to know Christ and get them to a place where they can be successful and contribute to society
  • “NLA gives me the opportunity to implement my own ideas and allows students hands-on experience in creating and implementing programs. The guest speakers give simple, applicable information while exposing us to the reality in the field. The Alliance Management Institute helped me develop in how I present myself and encouraged me to get as much field experience as possible.”
  • Fun Fact: “I won a mall crawling contest at age one! I creamed 25 other babies and won a four-foot tall Pooh Bear! It was a pretty amazing moment…I mean, I’m sure it was. I don’t actually remember it…”
